SCENIC WORLD - SYDNEY |
|
Scenic World is located in the Katoomba area of the Blue
Mountains National Park, near Sydney, Australia. Its main attractions
are the panoramic views, over misty mountains, & forested valleys, which
appear blue due to the Eucalyptus trees. The setting is a former mining
area, for which the scenic railway was once used, now its a thrill-ride
taking passengers down the mountainside at high speed! Other rides are
the Cableway, and the Skyway - a glass-floored horizontal cable-car ride
over 900ft cliff! Of particular interest to me however, was the Orphan
Rocker - a roller coaster utilising the area's hilly terrain, which
never actually opened??!! Research into this ride indicated that the
ride was in-built, but that test dummies were being thrown over the
cliff, and although Scenic World attempted to get the ride running,
after years of trying they just gave up! Asking after the ride while at
the park, 1 member of staff told us... "The parks owner built the
ride exclusively for his daughters, it was perfectly safe &
they grew up riding it. Staff get to ride it whenever they want..."
Later however, a different member of staff told us... "The ride never
passed planning approval, and part of it has to be removed. It has never
operated..." The truth remains a mystery to me! But in any case its
a real shame this unique panoramic coaster ride over the hillside (with
rocking seats!!) will probably
never open. Click a
