| Pleasureland announced its closure on 5/9/06 - the park is "no longer viable" was announced by Helen O'Neil of the Blackpool Pleasure Beach company, they sent the staff home, and locked up for the final time. Here at UK Rides we're very disappointed to hear this. Not only did this mean 'instant redundancy for many staff - some of whom have been there 40yrs+. But this also means the loss of 2 classic wooden roller coasters, and numerous other great rides, some of which date back almost 100 years. The classic funhouse also contains a number of unique examples of historic attractions, fortunately this is still open... for now. see our galleries of the individual rides, or scroll down the page for photos & video of Pleasureland both during & after its final season. | |||

| Bits of former rides are strewn across the Southport Zoo site, adjacent to Pleasureland. This land was acquired when the zoo closed and was supposed to be an area 'earmarked for development' by Pleasureland... nothing materialised except the former Waterboggan ride, the centre from an old set of waltzers and old sections of track from Blackpool's Big One. The dustbins from Pleasureland are shrink-wrapped and ready for use at Blackpool, except that some of them still have 'Morecambe Pleasure Park' on them! - A reminder of the other parks the Blackpool Pleasure Beach recently closed. | |
