There is a Pirate Ship ride under construction at New Pleasureland, photos here. Not sure if it's permanent or not but it looks it as there are concrete footers already in, and it looks like the one from Metroland. :P

Summer season opening began today, the Freak Out that is curentley there leaves tommorow. There is also a mini Crazy Chase type coaster under construction in the Fun House, and a new circus for Summer.

Check New Pleasureland Forums for the latest pics (link below). Thanks. :D

Concrete footers are quite permenant, arn't they? I thought the park was closing at the end of 2008 for Urban Splash to turn it into trendy apartments? Isn't this quite a lot of effort for a ride that will be in place for 6 months at the most? I wouldn't have though the investment return would be huge, it'll be a pain to take down again, surely? And can I finish anymore sentences with a question mark?

i thought same re it being 'a bit permanent' for a park closing in a couple of months... but talking to Norman earlier this year, he was hopeful he'd be able to work WITH Urban Splash... so while I've no idea what US's plans for the land are, Norman's hoping there'll still be room for some amusement rides... :)

I suppose he could have negotiated a deal to use half the site for the next year while Urban Splash build on the other half. I remember watching Piccadilly Place in Manchester being assembled while at University, it took them 3 years roughly to finish it, so they could get the ground work started on one side.

If Urban Splash take anything as long as they did with the Midland Hotel in Morecambe, Southport seafront re-genration will be completed in 2020. :mr green

But the site is pretty huge, the car parks, Pleasureland, Zoo Site and the grass behind, I'm sure they wont be able to fill it all, if they do it will be crap, hopefully they will give Dreamstorm some land at least.

I saw the Funhouse coaster when I visited the park last week. What came to mind stright away was the fact they have ruined inside of the Funhouse. I really don't like the size of the track, it's took up nearly all the space. So now there is hardly any room for other stuff. The only thing I DID thing like about the Funhouse was the Crazy Barrel, and since that got removed I can honestly say I've not been inside the Funhouse once.

I say well done with the Pirate Ship though. It's not took them long to build it up, considering it's a static model.

Won't be long now until it's open. Looking forward to riding it.
