YOKOHAMA
Yokohama is about an hour outside Tokyo by train, a largely industrial seaside area with spectacular bridges, and views to Mount Fuji in the distance...
Yokohama Bay is where Sea paradise is located, a Sea-World style aquarium & theme park. Just around the corner is the redeveloped harbour area, where Cosmoworld is home to the giant 'Clock 21' Ferris wheel. The building pictured behind is designed to resemble a ship's sail...
Also in Yokohama harbour, is the tallest building in Japan, the Landmark Tower...
SENSO JI
Senso Ji in Tokyo is a large complex of temples and gardens, extremely popular among tourists and locals...
Crowds gather at the main temple, while some of the smaller temples in the area are much quieter, with only 1 or 2 locals praying...
Some of the customs here are to waft the incense over your face, wash your hands in the fountain, and leave prayers along with offerings. Also pictured is a man feeding a cat, and a man with performing monkey entertaining the crowds...
Within the Senso Ji complex are a number of peaceful & tranquil Zen gardens to escape the hustle of the crowds...
Adjacent to the temple complex are a number of VERY busy markets....
Stalls selling many traditional Japanese goods, mainly to tourists. Among the foods on offer: hot, fresh rice crackers dipped in hot soy sauce, baby octopus-on-a-stick!, an array of Japanese sweets. Also pictured, stall selling traditional Japanese 'lucky' charms...
