Camelot kindly issued us an exclusive on their press release regarding the Schwarzkopf BMRX coaster formerly in Japan:

MAJOR INVESTMENT IN NEW ROLLER COASTER AT CAMELOT THEME PARK

Prime Resorts Limited, the owner of Camelot Theme Park near Chorley, has announced plans for a major investment in a spectacular new ride for 2007, Knightmare.

The new ride will be the biggest single investment ever made by Prime Resorts at Camelot, one of the North West’s most popular visitor attractions.

Work has started on preparing the site for the new ride – a family thrill roller coaster full of twists and turns that lasts around two minutes, reaching speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour.

At over 2,600 feet long, Knightmare is one of the world’s longest roller-coasters and is one of only two of its kind in the world.

Roy Page, Prime Resorts Limited’s Chief Executive, described Knightmare as ‘a world class addition’ to Camelot’s long list of attractions and live entertainment, including the unique jousting tournament.

“Knightmare is set to become one of the most talked-about rides in the region and will provide a major boost for Camelot in 2007. The spectacular ride will provide genuine excitement for thrill-seekers young and old,” he said.

Knightmare is expected to be in operation from late Spring. Its arrival underlines Camelot’s commitment to maintaining its position as one of the most popular visitor attractions in the North West.

The major investment in the new ride follows an announcement by Prime Resorts last year which may lead to proposals for a mixed use development on part of the site in future.

Roy Page added: “At the time of that announcement we pledged our commitment to investing in Camelot for the foreseeable future. Knightmare is proof positive that we are determined to provide a fantastic day out for families and groups at Camelot for many, many years to come.”

Knightmare will be located alongside some of the other most popular attractions at Camelot, including Excalibur Two, The Rack and The Whirlwind.

Camelot opens for the 2007 season on March 31.

COUNTDOWN ON TO OPENING OF NEW £3 MILLION ROLLERCOASTER!
Camelot Theme Park’s opening of Knightmare, the UK’s most eagerly awaited new rollercoaster of 2007, is just weeks away. Huge levels of excitement are guaranteed for thrill seekers of all ages as Knightmare will subject riders to more g force than any other rollercoaster in the UK, providing an extreme 4.6G. Construction of the new £3 million ride, the biggest single investment ever made by owners Prime Resorts, is nearing completion. The ride is expected to open on June 23, 2007. Andy Hine MBE, Chairman of the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain, said: “This ride is something special. It’s highly rated by roller coaster fans, not just for its height and speed, but due to the fact that it’s a really intense ride with non-stop action for the whole two minutes. It’s a classic roller coaster, one of only two of its kind in the world, that’s guaranteed to leave a long-lasting impression.” One of Knightmare’s many highlights is a mid-ride plunge nicknamed ‘the psycho drop’, after which riders are subject to extreme G forces.

Roy Page, Prime Resorts’ Chief Executive, said: “We expect Knightmare to attract many thousands of visitors to Camelot who have never been before. It will provide a world class ride experience unlike anything else in the UK and is a fantastic new addition to the park.” Knightmare is over half a mile long, full of twists, turns and steep drops and lasts just under two minutes. The highest point is 87 feet and it reaches speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour. The ride comprises three carriages, each seating 14 people. A height restriction of 1.3 metres will apply. The major investment in the new ride follows an announcement by Prime Resorts last year which may lead to proposals for a mixed use development on part of the site in an estimated seven years’ time. Roy Page added: “At the time of that announcement we pledged our commitment to investing in Camelot for the foreseeable future. Knightmare is proof positive that we are determined to provide a fantastic day out for families and groups at Camelot for many, many years to come.” Knightmare will be located alongside some of the other most popular attractions at Camelot, including Excalibur Two, The Rack and The Whirlwind.

CAMELOT ANNOUNCES NEW RIDE DELAY DUE TO POOR WEATHER

Camelot Theme Park has announced that the official media and public opening of Knightmare, its new, £3 million rollercoaster, originally scheduled for June 22 and 23 respectively, has been delayed.

Roy Page, Chief Executive of Prime Resorts Limited, owners of Camelot Theme Park, commented:

“The persistent poor weather in recent weeks has delayed construction and resulted in a considerable amount of unexpected down-time on site.

“The construction team is working as hard and as quickly as possible to make up the time that has been lost due to the continued poor weather.

“Naturally we are disappointed, but our focus now is to ensure that Knightmare is open to the public as soon as possible. We expect the ride to be open for early July, ahead of the summer holidays which is our busiest time.

“We apologise sincerely to those people who were hoping to ride Knightmare from this weekend onwards and will provide details of the new launch date as soon as it has been confirmed.”
