The Roller Coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach was originally
constructed in 1909 by William Strickler, one of the coaster building legends, and was
called the Velvet coaster, after the velvet seating the coaster boasted. It was
reconstructed in 1933 by Charlie Paige & Josesph Emberton (also famed for his
architecture, some of which is also at the Pleasure Beach), and has remained the same
since. It is one of a few coasters which have no safety restraints even today. |
