BAVARIA - 2009
see videos from Bavaria 2009
In February 2009, Nick & I were kindly invited over to Bavaria, with Babs, Rob, Tony & Mike, to stay with Rob's family, the Schweier's. Rob's brother Ludwig, & his wife Doris & their family were fantastic hosts. This is their farmhouse near Kempten, Allgau, the attic room we stayed in, and views from the house over the gardens & mountains...
The dining room is heated by a wood fired stove, Amelie wakes us for German breakfast rolls. Evening meal with Joachim, Karoline, Doris & Marion, also pictured the long haired cat, felix...
After our 1st day at Cambomare water spa, swimming outdoors in the snow! We head to Oberstdorf, and admire the views...
Taking the cable car, we stop at the top for a picnic, before tubing & sledging...

Great, long rodelbahn ride through the trees, but some steep, fast bits meaning plenty of cold, cold, snow spray...!
The next day out we spend at Alpsee, sadly, the longest alpine coaster in the world is under snow, thus closed, but there are great views from the cable car ride...
We hire mini-bobs, and race down the mountain...!
We stop for lunch at an Alpine chalet restaurant. That evening we meet with Rob's extended family at a Bavarian brewery for a traditional Bavarian meal... We spend the next day heading to Munich, calling in at Alpamare water park. The slides were great, and again we got to swim outdoors in a spa pool, surrounded by a blizzard! That evening we arrive in Munich, and meet up with our hosts Olivier & George, & some friends from London, J & Bea from Madrid...
Exploring Munich, we find the Rathaus & its carillon, & some great gargoyles...
The Rathaus & residences by night, some other shots around Munich...
We were advised to visit this small church, with very ornate & colourful interior...
And Munich's cathedral...
No visit to Germany would be complete without calling in at the Konditorei! We also found a Manner shop, and other Krapf to eat!
And of course, wurst everywhere! Many thanks to Rob for organising this trip, was great for me to go back to the alps. I'd also like to thank Olivier & George for hosting us in Munich.
