Th13teen replaces Alton Towers' Corkscrew
rollercoaster. Billed as the world's 1st 'Psychocoaster' the ride is a well
themed roller coaster, which includes a backwards section, & a dropping section
among some creepy theming, based on the ride's actual location on an ancient
burial ground. Click thumbnailed image to enlarge photo... |

Secret Weapon X was the Alton Towers
projects code word, used whenever they designed a new attraction. SW1 was a
Schwarzkopf racing coaster, designed for the rear of Ugland (then festival
Park). SW2 was a Pipeline coaster from Arrow, intended for where Nemesis is now.
Neither of these projects ever came to light. SW3 was Nemesis, SW4 was Oblivion,
& SW5 was Rita. New for 2010 at Alton Towers will be SW6 - a 'world 1st'
coaster, replacing Corkscrew. Press release: |

The ultimate
rollercoaster, Thirteen, launches on 20th March 2010.Thirteen
will be based on the discovery of an unearthed ancient burial site in an
area of unexplored woodland known as the Dark Forest. Built on the site of
the old Corkscrew rollercoaster, visitors will be invited to take a
petrifying ride on Thirteen, venturing into the seemingly living and
breathing Dark Forest. There they will face an unknown horror that has been
unleashed from the ancient crypt. The ride has been developed with the
world's leading coaster and thrill consultants who have collaborated to
combine the ultimate elements of physical and psychological fear - to create
what experts are dubbing a 'psychoaster' |
