Wiener Prater,
Vienna, is home to the Riesenrad (Giant Wheel). Constructed of Iron to a height of 64.75m in 1897
by Englishman, Walter B Basset. It was damaged by fire during the second world war, and was due for demolition,
only the authorities didn't have enough cash to pay for the demolition, so the wheel
remained. It was rebuilt after the war but only half the carriages were salvaged, hence
the empty 'spikes' on the rim of the wheel.
